El 5 de julio de 1795 fallece en la Isla de León Antonio de Ulloa. No deja de ser paradójico que la ocasión que motiva esta exposición –la presencia de parte de su biblioteca en la Universidad de Sevilla—sea precisamente la prueba del fracaso de la disposición testamentaria del almirante, pues éste manifestó en todo momento que su colección de libros e instrumentos científicos debería siempre permanecer unida, vinculados en sus sucesores.

On July the 5th of 1795 Antonio de Ulloa died in Isla de León (Cádiz). It may be ironic that the reason behind this exhibition, i.e. the presence of a part of Ulloa’s book collection in the University of Seville, is at the same time an evidence of the failure of his testamentary disposition: he declared that his collection of books and scientific instruments should always remain together and not to be divided.
